2025 April: getting around

A word on getting around on the Amalfi coast:

Scooter.

The road to anywhere from Agerola is down the 2000’ cliff with lots of switchbacks. The views are incredible, the signs are descriptive. Here we are paused at a typical side-street intersection:

Early enough in the AM, it’s clear sailing, and beautiful. Here we are, starting close to the top:

The roads are narrow, often not wide enough to allow 2 mid-size cars to pass. So traffic can be slow, and can stop for intervals. With a scooter, the rule is, if there’s open space, you can go. So you can scoot around a lot of the jams.

The main thing: scooting is a gas. Here we are arriving at Piazza San Lazzaro in Agerola:

Here’s the t-intersection at the bottom of the Agerola cliff, where we stopped pretty much every day for a macchiato. A nice thing is they’ve got police out helping to direct traffic at the choke points:

BTW I learned a month or so before arriving here, you need an ‘International Driving Permit’ (IDP) to drive here. Fortunately there’re online services that can arrange them for you. …
